5A Boys Lacrosse: Cherry Creek goes undefeated

The Cherry Creek High School boys lacrosse team completed an undefeated, 15-0, regular season with a win at Regis Jesuit last Friday. Creek won 11-3 over the Raiders. Head Coach Matt Bocklet said the regular season mark was great, but the job is not done.

“I’m proud of the boys and what they’ve done so far this year,” Bocklet said. “But now we’re the number one seed and we’re 0-0. We had a great group of seniors that we challenged last year at the end of the season to pick up everything from the start-as soon as we got back to school in the fall. They really did an incredible job as leaders to push and motivate everyone this year.”

Bruins senior Oliver Nolting is one of three senior captains on the team.

“It’s great,” Nolting said. “It’s been a great squad, and we’ve worked all year. It’s been awesome. I love these kids like brothers. Our captains have taken over this team, and we’ve pushed everyone to their limits, but we’re not done yet. We still have to work. Playoffs now, and we’ll see where this team goes.”

Cherry Creek is seeded number 1 and is one of eight teams that have gained a first-round bye going into the upcoming playoffs, which begin May 7. Wednesday, No. 11 Cherokee Trail hosts No. 22 Erie at Legacy Stadium, and No. 20 Grandview will be on the road to play No. 13 Chatfield at Halftime Help Stadium in Highlands Ranch.

Final Four matches will be played on May 17 at DU’s Peter Barton Stadium and the championship will take place on May 19.
